Namimail Installation FAQs

Q How to install Namimail onto a BlackBerry device
A Please refer to the manual which can be accessed by taking the following steps:
1. Log on to the member’s site at www.namikiteru.com

2. Click on “Help & Support” on the right

3. Select the appropriate manual
Q There is no "ADD" button in my Application Loader
A This is due to the incompatibility between the Japanese Windows OS and the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. Press the "Alt" + "A" keys in place of the "ADD" button and the software browser will appear. "Alt" + "A" is a shortcut for "ADD".
Q Namimail for BlackBerry does not appear in my menu after the installation
A Reconfirm that your device check OS is version 4.1 or 4.0 (Options or Tools > Settings, > About). If not V4.1 or 4.0, please contact your wireless service provider for the upgrade download site.

Reconfirm that your device has the "Phone" application installed (Options or Tools > Settings, > Applications).
If "Phone" does not appear in the list, please contact your wireless service provider and reinstalling the application by reinstalling the handheld OS v4.1 or 4.0 (you can try with the Application Loader. "Phone" should appear in that list).

Q I downloaded the software to my desktop, but I cannot add it in the Application Loader…
A Please download and unzip the file to a designated folder. The file you will add will be "Namimail.alx".
Q When I start the Application Loader, "No system software can be found" is displayed.
A You must install the handheld software onto the Desktop Manager v4.1 or 4.0. Please contact your wireless provider for details on which site to download the software from and installation. Once installed, the applications running on your handheld will appear in this window in a list.

Q When I install the software and launch Namimail, the characters are not displayed correctly
A Question marks: Exchange/BES combo ? Confirm BES version

Small black boxes: Lotus/BES combo ? Confirm BES version, Lotus POP3 is not compatible

 

Only part of the email is displayed, other characters seem cut off…
Perform Manual delete on the device, hard-reset (take out and reinsert the battery), then install Namimail using Application Loader again.

Q Nothing happens when I click the “Namimail for BlackBerry” menu option
A Reconfirm that your device check OS is version 4.1 or 4.0 (Options or Tools > Settings, > About). If not V4.1 or 4.0, please contact your wireless service provider for the upgrade download site.

  Reconfirm that your Message Service is set up on your device. This can be confirmed by attempting to write a new email. If you are unable to write a new email on the device, your Message Service is not set up. Please contact your wireless services provider for more details about setting up your preferred Message Service.
Q When I launch the Application Loader, a "Communication Port Selection" message box appears asking me to "select the communication port to which your handheld is connected, or check the 'Detect' box to scan for the port automatically."
A Ensure that the device is connected to your computer
  Check to make sure the Handheld OS software v4.1 or 4.0 is installed on the Desktop Manager by clicking “Help” in the tool bar, then selecting ”About Desktop Manager”, then clicking the “Handheld Software” tab. If your device software is not listed, please download from the upgrade download site:

Q Is Namimail installed on the server?
A No, this is a client-based Java application in which the installation is made directly on the handheld and does not require any back-end work.
Q When I try to perform a wireless installation using the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) it does not work properly.
A We do not recommend wireless installations using the BES. Please use the desktop manager for installation.
Q Emails appear as "?????" on my BlackBerry device…
A This issue occurs due to RIM not supporting email server Exchange v5.5.
For all other cases, please ensure that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) is up-to-date and has the latest Hotfixes applied.
