Q:  What was the opportunity for you to introduce Namimail within your organization?
A: It's difficult to run around with a laptop PC, and there are times when connections do not work or do not go well. Therefore, I purchased a BlackBerry device even though it couldn't display Japanese emails.
But I was increasingly frustrated with not being able to read the Japanese emails when I knew that these were important. Even if I could get in touch with my assistants for help to check the email, if they were unable to read Japanese it was useless, so I was really frustrated with not being able to handle any urgent correspondence that came in Japanese.

And just then when I was really in need, I found out about NTT DoCoMo USA's Japanese email "Monitor Trial" for the BlackBerry and called to sign up right away.

Q:  Did the Namimail deployment go well? How is it being used?
A: MOFO (Morrison & Foerster)'s Technology Services division is very strict with implementing new technologies, but the BlackBerry was already being used among American attorneys so permission for Japanese employees to use BlackBerry Handhelds with Namimail went through quickly.
It was great that the software for the Namimail service had no security issues and was approved without trouble by our Technology Services division.

There are times when I check my emails while on vacation or on business trips to the West Coast. Wireless carriers nowadays provide roaming access and connection in many different areas, such as in the Caribbean Islands, and combining voice and email capabilities with the BlackBerry makes things very convenient.

Q:  What was everyone's reaction after introducing BlackBerry devices with Namimail?
A: When the Monitor- version of Namimail came out, three Japanese attorneys here in the NY office registered for the software.
In our office the Japanese attorneys were one of the last ones to use BlackBerry devices due to the inability to display Japanese, but with Namimail that deployment was finally realized and everyone was really happy to be able to communicate in Japanese on the devices.

There are attorneys in our office who use BlackBerry Handhelds as an internal messaging tool which I always thought was convenient.
Also, perhaps some of the younger attorneys may want to use the Namikiteru WiFi service as well.

Q:  Any demands or words of encouragement for Namimail?
A: I have high hopes for the Japanese writing (input) function, but just being able to view Japanese emails on a wireless device has been outstanding.
This is not something to request of NTT DoCoMo USA, but it would be nice if the number of hotspots increased so that it will be easier to connect to Namikiteru access points.
We hope you will keep improving the software for Namimail so that it takes up less memory on the device.
